Using the previous example with matrix A over the integers (ZZ), we can still find the same Jordan Canonical Form as before:

Now, if we change A to be over the field QQbar (complex rational field), we get:

This is the same Jordan canonical form for A, since we know that Jordan form is unique up to permutations of the blocks themselves. 

Then, for a matrix B with complex eigenvalues, we simply increase the base field to QQbar, and we can calculate the Jordan Canonical Form:
